Most of my peers (with & without degrees) find themselves in the exact same situation, the only difference being who went into more debt figuring that out. Despite being a wildly diverse community- we all seem to be grappling with the same challenges. What started as a personal quest to get right with my own career, became a mission to share practical tools & strategies that support modern Artists. "As a classically trained oil painter with an academic background, it came as a shock to realize Art School failed me. Yes, I received a lot of great technical training and historic context, but I quickly discovered my complete lack of preparation for the real world. I had stacks of finished work that few people saw, and even less bought. My sense of utter failure gave rise to a whole host of excuses, stories & paralyzing fears that only served to keep me stuck.

Ryan Vai
is an independent professional artist and the artist development director with DAC. Her creative work includes original oil paintings and luxury dried floral design. Working with DAC for the past five years, her skills as a mentor to fellow artists has evolved into the Emerge Program. Ryan’s specialty is penetrating to the root cause of creative struggle, demystifying self employment & providing practical support to artists in their pursuit of full time careers.
